6th Ghana Beverage Awards launched In Grand Style and Splendor

GLOBAL Media Alliance (GMA), the organizers for the Ghana Beverage Awards (GBA), have officially launched its 6th edition in a grand style with pomp and pageantry coupled with world class cocktails and finger foods, at the plush kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra. For the past five years, the GBA Awards has been organised with the aim of honouring excellence and professionalism in the beverage industry in Ghana annually. In the last five years, GBA has remained the reference point to identify beverage companies that are in touch with their markets and contributing significantly to the Ghanaian economy. Under the theme “Inspiring Excellence in Ghana’s Beverage Industry” the awards will promote both local and foreign beverages as well as the participation of small-scale beverage enterprises in the awards scheme. Speaking at the launch of the awards, Chief Executive Officer of GMA, Mr Ernest Boateng, expressed optimism about the 2021 awards in spite of the past setbacks. “For the past two awards, the Ghana Beverage Awards event was launched and organised virtually in compliance with the protocols stipulated by the Government of Ghana to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, we were able to pull off successful events. “Tonight, I am pleased to inform you that, the 6th edition of the Ghana Beverage Awards will be held in-person here in Accra in March 2022 and we look forward to delivering an enthralling event”, he expressed. GBA 2021 will have 18 categories with the ultimate award being the Product of the Year. The public will be given the opportunity to nominate their favorite beverages between now and February 2022 and vote for the Product of the Year in March, 2022 before the main awards. Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, on behalf of the Government of Ghana, commended the GBA Secretariat for promoting excellence in the beverage industry with the awards. “I would like to congratulate the organizers for the introduction of initiatives such as the beverage industry tour that was introduced as part of the awards to assess the available facilities and practices in the local beverage manufacturing space while sharing best practices. “Under the leadership of his Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Ministry of Trade and Industry is committed to demonstrating support for all Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in the beverage industry through the many engagements since the Ministry was instituted”, he shared. In a lead up to this year’s awards, a beverage industry tour will be organised for the GBA board to visit all nominated industries to familiarize with their work and practices. The tour will be held in February 2022. The Ghana Beverage Awards is organized by Global Media Alliance and proudly supported by the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG),

Muslims Mark EID ul Fitre Nationwide- As Muslim Leaders clamour for Peace and Prosperity, urging Youth to Desist From Drug Abuse and Crime.

 

Absolute enthusiasm and merry making, is what characterized the 2018 EID ul Fitre celebrations,

as Muslims nationwide joined the global Islamic community to mark the end of the fasting month, known as Ramadan.

This day is a very special day in the Islamic calendar, and it was celebrated with prayers and picnics across the country.

In an exclusive interview with the GNSonline, at his colourful palace,

Nii OsabuAkwei I, Chief of Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra, who is also a Muslim, thanked the all mighty Allah for the gift of life, and the peace and tranquillity that Ghana is enjoying,

Nii Sowutuom as affectionately called, indicated that where there is peace, there is development, whiles advising the youth to celebrate in moderation admonishing them position themselves to take advantage on government programmemes, projects and initiatives geared towards youth development in the country.

Niii dicated that Sowutuom has a vast potential for industrialization and the community is positioning itself to benefit from government’s one district one factory flagship initiative in the area of mineral water and sunflower oil production.

Nii OsabuAkwei I, who hosted hundreds of people particularly the youth in his palace to celebrate EID ul Fitre, indicated to GNSonline that he is into partnership with stakeholders to fashion out an initiative geared towards youth development in Sowutuom as part of his commitment to enhance the well being of the youth in the area, urging the support of all, when the initiative is launched.

 

 In an interaction with media during the EID ulFitre celebration, Chief Mohamed Sugtabaa, the Greater Accra Kusasi Chief, was thankful to Allah that Ghana is at peace and urged all, irrespective of our political differences to support government to succeed. According to Chief Mohamed Sugtabaa, development has no political colour and therefore when government succeeds, the nation succeeds.

Chief Mohamed Sugtabaa spoke passionately about youth drug abuse, particularly the youth abuse of tramadol popularly known as tramore, calling on government, religious and moral society to make the issue of tramadol abuse a national issue, calling on chiefs and opinion leaders not to bail or plead for leniency for any youth engaged in drug related activities.

Chief Mohamed Sugtabaa stipulated that young people do not need to use tramadol to work or to be strong, engaging in sports and physical exercise is enough to make the body function well.

SWIFT HOLDS STAKEHOLDER FORUM IN GHANA

 

Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), a global member-owned cooperative and the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services, providing their community with a platform for messaging standards for communicating, offering products and services to facilitate access and integration; identification, analysis and regulatory compliance organisation, held an interactive forum with players and stakeholders in Ghana’s financial sector, comprising of CEOs, MDs, Executive Directors of banks and SWIFT service users also known as the national member group, to discuss issues on compliance, security on the SWIFT platform, cyber treats and to facilitate stakeholder engagement.

In her welcome and opening address, the Director of Banking, Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Peggy Osei-Tutu Dzodzomenyo said, the strategic importance of SWIFT cannot be overemphasized and that large value local funds transfers, settlement of security related transactions and cross –border transactions, all rely on the robustness and resilience of the SWIFT network, indicating that most banks in Ghana also rely on SWIFT products to meet their international compliance requirements.

Mrs. Peggy Osei-Tutu Dzodzomenyo noted that in line with the mandate of BOG to maintain financial stability, the central bank goes the extra length to ensure efficiency and safety of the various infrastructure in the financial space through stakeholder engagements, enabling 29 banks to connect to the SWIFT network, that has resulted in a far reduced cost for participating banks and ensure collective approach in meeting required standards and securing the SWIFT environment against possible abuse, treats and cyber-attack which is more eminent more than ever.

Presenting the facts and figures for Ghana on the swift platform, Mr. Solomon Osuoza, Country Manager for SWIFT, indicated that as at May 2018, 7million transactions from Ghana has been recorded on the swift platform with 33 thousand messages representing a significant growth 0f 22.7% in traffic, with a payment growth of 19% and a treasury growth of 7%, with Ghana ranked 6 in Sub-Saharan Africa, with facts and figures stipulating that the volume between Ghana and Nigeria on the payment corridor is low in spite of theproximity between the two countries. Interestingly transactions between Ghana and Gambia corridor recorded significant growth. 

In his presentation, Mr. Solomon Osuoza also stipulated the top four major transaction destinations from Ghana, are United States, China, Hong Kong and India adding that, United States tops on the payment corridor.  

In his address, Mr.Sido Bestani, Head of SWIFT, Middle East, Turkey& Africa indicated that SWIFT will do whatever it takes to enhance compliance and protect its stakeholders from eminent treats through information, knowledge sharing and capacity building but financial institutions must constantly upgrade in terms of innovation, technology and awareness creation.

Adding that ‘‘education, education, education is KEY’’

Mr.Sido Bestani also reminded financial stakeholders in Ghana to actively and enthusiastically participate in their number in the upcoming 20-22 June, 2018 25^th edition of SWIFT African Regional Conference in Kigali Rwanda, indicating the possibility of Ghana hosting the 2019 edition depending on stakeholder interest and participation in this year’s edition in Rwanda.

The SWIFT Ghana forum ended with several stakeholder concerns, particularly on cyber treats and security issues, with financial stakeholders also suggested that, at least such engagement should be organised by SWIFT quarterly to enhance awareness creation, networking and knowledge sharing.

SWIFT was founded in 1970s, based on the ambitious and innovative vision of creating a global financial messaging service, and a common language for international financial messaging.

Today swift remains a truly global cooperative leading innovation in financial messaging service, the swift community is stronger than before, with a global and neutral character increasingly reflected in international governance and oversight including the SWIFT oversight forum.

WISE ACCRA HELD IN GRAND STYLE

Under the distinguish patronage of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, over  400 participants drawn from the globe gathered  to foster  collaboration and to explore practical solutions to the development of education in Africa. The summit is organised by World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Qatar Foundation in collaboration with the government of Ghana, to highlight and explore solutions in education for the future.

Under the theme "Unlocking the World's Potential: Leading and Innovating for Quality Education in Africa", WISE@Accra explored innovations in Africa that is aimed at overcoming current limitations and to pave new ways to empower the youth to lead and innovate. The summit engaged prominent leaders, policymakers and youth on concrete steps towards an improved and connected education system.

Central to discussions were topics such as quality education and its key drivers, empowering the next generation through innovation, investing and collaborating for sustainable impact, and galvanizing communities to transform the continent. Regional collaboration will also be highlighted.

In his opening address, Stavros Yiannouka, Ceo of WISE confidently said,"The fact that today we are in Accra is testament to strides that the continent is taking in education and to the tremendous opportunities to do even more and make the aspiration of to all a reality." Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Ghana, who represented the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, outlined various initiatives and interventions by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government of Ghana including the successes chalked in the government’s flagship FREE SHS initiative that have led to considerable enrolment increase in Ghana’s secondary education. The education minister indicated that the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is poised to provide education to all Ghanaian children of school going age, at least to secondary school level free of charge.

The following thematic areas were addressed at the summit with great resource persons and experts such as;
