The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba was at the Institute of Local
Government Studies for a Press Conference on Female Genital Mutilation
& Cut (FGM/C) organised by (I)NTACT.
The press conference was to
announce the partnership between the German Group (I)NTACT and NGOs of
Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo for the elimination of the tradition of
excision or female genital mutilation across borders.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba pledged her unwavering support and
that of her ministry in the combat against FGM and continue with the
work of reaching out to a wider stakeholder base with robust
sensitisation and advocacy programmes especially for traditional rulers
who sometimes encourage such practices.
Hon. Otiko Djaba added that
FGM must be stopped as it violates on the rights of women and girls and
strengthen discrimination and gender inequality in areas where it is
