Personality Profile:Hon. Otiko Afisa Djaba,Minister for Gender,Children and Social Protection

 Otiko Afisa Djaba,Minister for Gender,Children and Social Protection, Mother of the Vulnerable in Ghana, Voice of the Voiceless is a mother of 4 children, is 54 years old. She studied Information Systems in the UK, communications in Egypt and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrated Development Studies at the University for Development Studies in Ghana.
She was the National Facilitator for the Campaign for Greater Discipline under Former Vice President Aliu Mahama in 2004. She worked as a Consultant in Children’s Rights and rural women’s development for Plan Ghana in extremely deprived rural communities in Sissala districts and in Wa.
In 2008 she was the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Bole-Bamboi constituency, and is currently the Women’s leader of the New Patriotic Party and has held the position since 2010. She is a polyglot, who speaks 8 Ghanaian dialects.

Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Addresses Press Conferemce FGM

 The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba was at the Institute of Local Government Studies for a Press Conference on Female Genital Mutilation & Cut (FGM/C) organised by (I)NTACT.
The press conference was to announce the partnership between the German Group (I)NTACT and NGOs of Ghana, Burkina Faso and Togo for the elimination of the tradition of excision or female genital mutilation across borders.





Speaking at the event, Hon. Otiko Afisah Djaba pledged her unwavering support and that of her ministry in the combat against FGM and continue with the work of reaching out to a wider stakeholder base with robust sensitisation and advocacy programmes especially for traditional rulers who sometimes encourage such practices.
Hon. Otiko Djaba added that FGM must be stopped as it violates on the rights of women and girls and strengthen discrimination and gender inequality in areas where it is practiced.
